Area of general research interest:
Our focus is on translational NanoMedicine, which involves biomaterial synthesis, formulation design and development, and evaluation of different biocompatible nanoparticle-based platform technologies for targeted drug/gene delivery and imaging agents. Our current primary research interests are in cancer treatment and detection, delivery of anti-oxidant enzymes in stroke and development of a non-stent approach to inhibition of restenosis.
Current programs:
- Polymer synthesis, nanoparticle formulation, functionalization, characterization
- Molecular mechanisms of nanoparticle-cell interactions, uptake and intracellular trafficking, and drug efficacy
- Developing nanoparticles as non-viral gene expression vector
- Multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles for drug delivery, optical imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging
- Cancer treatment, drug resistance, drug combination, drug targeting, 3-D tumor model, metastatic tumor models
- Stroke, vascular diseases, CNS delivery of anti-HIV drugs
- Biocompatibility of nanosystems, interactions with model membrane, oxidative stress, clearance
- Biophysical interactions with model cell plasma membrane, engineering nanoparticles to modulate drug resistance
- Functionalized nanoparticles for drug targeting, CNS delivery of anti-HIV drugs
